Everyone had high expectations from A R Rahman at the Oscars after he became the first Indian to win a Golden Globe award for his Background Score in Slumdog Millionaire. But not only has A R Rahman got an Academy Award Nomination but he has got 3 nominations at the Oscars with Best Music (Score) for Slumdog Millionaire, Best Music (song) for Jai Ho song of Slumdog Millionaire and Best Music (song) for O Saya song of Slumdog Millionaire. He has a very high chance of winning in both the categories. He has already won the Background Score at the Golden Globe Award which is regarded as a preview to the Oscars. And in the other category Best Music (song) he has got two nominations out of the three nominations in the category and will only need to compete with Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman for their song “Down to Earth” in “Wall E”. In two of his nominations namely Best Music (song) for “Jai Ho” and Best Music (song) for “O Saya”, he shares the nomination with Gulzar (who has penned the lyrics of Jai Ho) and Maya Arulpragasam (who has penned the lyrics of O Saya with Rahman) respectively. Rahman was elated with the three nominations saying he had never expected three nominations but the “King of Indian Music” remained humble as ever. Rahman was with his family at his home in Chennai when the nominations were announced and he said that he was feeling on top of the world after the nominations. Rahman could not attend the Indian premiere of Slumdog Millionaire in Mumbai as he had to give the final touches to the musical score of Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi 6. He thanked all Indians for the love and prayers bestowed upon him. He also thanked all the technicians, musicians and all those who have been a part of his music throughout the years. He was grateful to God and he thanked the Almighty for his success. He also congratulated and thanked the whole team of Slumdog Millionaire and hoped that he might bring India’s first Oscar. The whole team of Slumdog Millionaire and the whole of Bollywood were also thrilled with Rahman’s nominations and Irrfan Khan (who was also part of the movie) said that he hoped A R Rahman wins one Oscar at least, lyricist Gulzar also said that A R Rahman should win an award while Hrithik Roshan simply bowed to show his respect to A R Rahman. There were many others like Shabani Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Ila Arun (who sung Ringa Ringa with Alka Yagnik), Sukhvinder Singh (who sung Jai Ho), filmmaker Yash Chopra, Anil Kapoor (who was the anchor of the show in the movie) and Preity Zinta who also congratulated A R Rahman for the nominations
